My life was a race against time, against ambition, and against my own sense of duty. I achieved a lot, but today I know: none of it would have been possible without the people who stood behind me \u2014 our parents and grandparents, who supported us unconditionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when I became a grandmother myself, that gratitude turned into something deeper \u2014 a desire to return at least a part of the care and support that I once received. At 59, I made the decision to step away from work and devote myself fully to my newborn granddaughter. Today I have two \u2014 one is two years old, the other nineteen months. A decision that changed my life in a way no career ever could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post-career years - the perfect time for grandmotherhood<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After decades of proving yourself to the world, comes a moment of inner quiet \u2014 a time for balance, for home, for loved ones, for the little rituals. This is the moment when a grandmother can be her most present and most complete \u2014 armed with more patience, more tenderness, and more time to simply be there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the time when we can slow down, pay attention to details, delight in the laughter, the games, the chaos \u2014 in those small hands reaching out to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A gentle reminder to grandmothers who \u201cdon\u2019t have time\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will say this with a lot of love, but with honesty too:\nYou lose nothing if you skip an episode of a show. And nothing terrible happens if your coffee with friends ends a little earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shows will still be there. The conversations will repeat themselves.\nBut the child\u2019s eyes looking at you with expectation, the little voice saying \u201cGrandma, come here\u201d \u2014 that is once-in-a-lifetime, unrepeatable, priceless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How grandmothers can be true support \u2014 advice from experience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A child does not need a perfect adult beside them. They need someone who is present. Someone who shows them the world with patience, love, and calm \u2014 not through screens and schedules, but through small, real moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are the moments when a grandmother can open a whole new world before them. We don\u2019t need to be scholars \u2014 we only need the desire to explain, to share, to listen. Every \u201cwhy\u201d is an invitation to connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equally important are the skills passed only through family \u2014 those quiet, homely lessons you won\u2019t find in any textbook. Kneading bread together. Sewing a missing button. Planting a flower. Trying a new recipe. This becomes a lifelong memory \u2014 of the smell of baking, of warm hands, of time given without conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helping our grandchildren means helping their parents too<\/strong>

When a grandmother is an active part of a child\u2019s life, she is giving something priceless to the parents as well. Sometimes it\u2019s an hour of freedom so they can breathe. Other times it\u2019s the ability to work peacefully, to build their careers, to have time for themselves, to feel like a team again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And often, thanks to this support, parents find the confidence to dream about a second or third child. A grandmother\u2019s involvement is not just \u201chelp\u201d \u2014 it is a foundation for the entire family, for its future, and for the bonds that will remain strong through the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
